Indications/Contraindications

The history and physical examination of the client would dictate the need for colon hydrotherapy in the overall treatment plan.  Colon Hydrotherapy has been shown to be beneficial for the following conditions:

Indications for Colon Hydrotherapy

• Acute Fecal Impaction

• Constipation

• Colitis

• Diarrhea

• Parasitic Infections

• Atonic Colon

• Abdominal Distension/Flatulence

• Hemorrhoid (mild to moderate)

• Intestinal Toxemia

• Nutrient Supplementation via Rectum

• Surgery

• Balance Physiologic Flora of Large Intestine

• Mucous Colitis

• Fever Therapy

• Hyper / Hypothermia

• Paraplegics & Quadriplegics (Bowel Training)

• Prevention

• Preparation for diagnostic study of the large intestine

• Barium Enema

• Sigmoidoscopy & Colonoscopy

• Diverticulosis

• Diverticulitis

• Ulcerative Colitis

• Crohn's Disease

• On Site Preparation Following Trauma

• Early Pregnancy (up to 4 months)

 Contraindications for Colon Hydrotherapy

• Severe Cardiac Disease (uncontrolled Hypertension or Congestive Heart Failure)

• Aneurysm

• Severe Anemias

• GI Hemorrhage / Perforation

• Severe Hemorrhoids

• Cirrhosis

• Carcinoma of the Colon

• Fissures/Fistulas

• Pregnancy, first & third trimester

• Abdominal Hernia

• Recent Colon Surgery

• Renal Insufficiency
